A Point Reyes shipwreck poster of the old wooden fishing boat grounded on the mud spit at Inverness. The hull tilts hard to starboard, orange paint flaking off the planks, a squat white wheelhouse with a rusted roof still standing. Marsh grass has grown up around the keel, a tidal channel mirrors the sky in front, and the golden hills across Tomales Bay close the distance.
About the artwork
A richly worked illustration with visible brush-style texture in the peeling paint and grain drawn into the planking. The colour is warm against cool: burnt orange and rust on the hull, chalk white and bone on the wheelhouse, ochre sand on the spit, then acid green and olive marsh grass, a slate-blue channel, and hills in gold and dusty green under blue-grey ridgelines. Tall cream cumulus fill the upper right of a deep teal sky, with a scatter of white gulls above. Faded lettering runs along the bow. Small white wildflowers dot the grass at the lower left. Printed type reads POINT REYES SHIPWRECK over CALIFORNIA in white capitals. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- One of the most photographed boats in California — an easy landmark to recognise for anyone who has driven Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
- Man-made subject in a nature series — the weathered hull gives this print character the pure landscapes do not have.
- Rust orange as the focal point — a single warm mass against green marsh and blue water.
- Texture up close — flaking paint, plank seams and grass blades all reward a nearer look.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The rust hull is strong enough to lead a room. It sits well on cream, sand or pale sage walls, and it is one of the few prints in this series that also holds up against a deep green or navy wall. In the living room shown in the photographs above, the rust cushions repeat the hull colour directly. Natural oak or espresso frames suit it better than white.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The boat fills the upper half, so it still reads at 12" x 18". For a hallway or above a sideboard, 18" x 24" or 24" x 36" shows the marsh and the bay properly.
Is this the same place as the cypress tunnel? Both are on the Point Reyes peninsula, but this is the beached boat on the Tomales Bay shore at Inverness, not the avenue of cypress trees inland. They are separate prints.
What does the poster say? Two printed lines: POINT REYES SHIPWRECK and CALIFORNIA. The faded name on the bow of the boat is left as painted texture rather than clean type.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
