A plovdiv travel poster looking down into the Roman theatre on the hill: curved tiers of pale limestone seating, the columned stage building behind it, and the whole modern city spreading out beyond to a hazy ridge of mountains.
About the artwork
Nearly half the picture is stone, and that turns out to be the point. The foreground is a broad sweep of sun-bleached rock, cracked and faceted, with dry grasses and a few pink tufts caught in the fissures and lilac-blue shadow pooling in the low spots. Above it the seating fans out in wedge-shaped rows, each tier drawn as a separate step so the curve stays legible, with the round orchestra floor and its curved wall at the lower left. The stage front rises to the right in two levels of standing columns with an entablature across the top and a dark arched doorway beneath. On the cliff at the upper right, old town houses stack up in coral, teal, mustard and cream with red-tiled roofs and overhanging upper floors, trees pushing between them. Far below and to the left the city goes on and on in tiny red roofs until it meets a blue ridge and a warm streaky sky. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Bulgaria beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Two thousand years in one frame. Roman stone in front, a living city behind it.
- Sand, apricot and blue shadow. A warm neutral print that still has real colour in it.
- Detail that rewards a close look. Every seating tier and every roof tile is drawn.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The warm limestone makes this an easy neighbour for sand, oatmeal and terracotta walls, and it lifts a corridor or a landing where you want something to look at in passing. Natural oak or a pale ash frame keeps it soft; espresso wood pushes it towards the archaeological. Linen, travertine, rattan and unglazed pottery all suit it. It hangs well beside the Rila Monastery print if you want a Bulgarian pair with very different colour temperatures.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Where is the artist standing? On the slope above the theatre, looking down and slightly north across the seating towards the plain.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
