A Pittock Mansion Portland poster taken from the lawn on the west hills. The sandstone chateau sits low in the frame under its steep terracotta roof, the city spreads out behind it in blue haze, and Mount Hood stands snow-capped on the horizon with a Douglas fir framing the whole view from the left.
About the artwork
Built from hard-edged shapes and fine engraved line work, with a tightly limited palette that keeps the picture calm: flat deep teal sky, near-black forest green firs, a sunlit yellow-green lawn, warm sandstone and honey on the mansion walls, burnt orange roof tiles, and pale cream on the snowfields of the mountain. The city between them is reduced to layered teal and rust rooftops so it reads as texture rather than detail. Look for the dormer windows, the pair of tall chimneys, the rounded bay on the right corner and the curved drive cutting across the grass. The type reads PORTLAND in white capitals with OREGON letterspaced below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Three subjects, one frame — the mansion, the city and Mount Hood stacked in depth, which is exactly why people climb to this lookout.
- A disciplined colour scheme — teal, forest green and terracotta, with almost nothing else competing.
- Architecture with real detail — the roofline, dormers and bay windows of the 1914 chateau are drawn out properly.
- Quiet enough for a bedroom — the flat sky gives the top half room to breathe.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The dominant colour here is deep teal, so it sits beautifully against the sage wall in the photographs above, and equally well on off-white, warm grey or a deep green wall. The terracotta roof gives you a warm accent to echo in a rust cushion or a clay pot. Natural oak framing keeps it soft; black framing makes the teal read almost inky, which suits a study or a hallway with darker floors.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The mansion occupies a fairly small band of the picture, so avoid going too small. 16" x 24" is a comfortable minimum, and 24" x 36" lets the roofline and the mountain both hold their own.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship rolled and unframed in standard US and A-series sizes. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
What does the poster say? The printed wording is PORTLAND and OREGON. The house is Pittock Mansion in the west hills, and the peak behind it is Mount Hood, but neither is lettered on the artwork.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
