A Great Wave print for a bedroom, recolored in pink. Waves in navy, pink and white rise under a pink sky and a striped pink sun, with boats caught in the water and a small Mount Fuji far off. It keeps the drama of the famous design after Hokusai and softens it for a room meant for rest.
About the artwork
This is a new design inspired by Katsushika Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa, made around 1831, redrawn in navy, pink and white. Boats ride inside the waves, and Mount Fuji stays small in the distance. A striped pink sun hangs in the pink sky, the one soft round shape among the curling water. The line work is woodblock-style, in the ukiyo-e manner. The caption reads "Katsushika HOKUSAI · The Great Wave off Kanagawa, Tokyo 1831". Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- A dramatic sea in bedroom colors. The pink sky and pink-and-white water turn a rough wave into something gentle enough to sleep near.
- Navy keeps it grounded. Navy in the waves stops the pink from going sugary and gives the design its depth.
- The familiar details stay. The boats in the waves and the small Mount Fuji in the distance make it read as the Great Wave at first glance.
- A striped pink sun. The sun is drawn in pink stripes, a small graphic touch that ties the sky to the water below.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Hang it over the bed in a bedroom with blush, white or pale gray walls, where the pink sky reads as warm light. Above a queen or king headboard, 24" x 36" holds the space; over a nightstand, 12" x 18" works. A white or natural solid wood floating frame keeps the look soft. Pair it with a navy throw or cushions on the bed to pick up the dark water.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this Hokusai's own woodblock print? No. It is a new design after Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa, which he made around 1831, recolored in pink, navy and white.
What does the caption say? It credits Katsushika Hokusai and names The Great Wave off Kanagawa, the design this pink version is after.
What size works above a bed? 24" x 36" suits most queen and king beds. Over a full or twin bed, 18" x 24" keeps the proportions right.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
