A sumi-e pine print for a living room that needs a still point. A gray cliff is cut in quick ink strokes, a black pine reaches sideways off it, and a large red sun hangs on a beige ground. It is a small scene with a lot of air around it.
About the artwork
Black and gray ink carry the rock and the tree, red fills the sun, and the ground is a soft beige. The cliff is built from chiseled, broken strokes, while the pine stretches out horizontally from it. Much of the sheet stays empty, in the sumi-e manner, so the sun and the pine do all the talking. A small red seal holds the characters 静けさ and repeats the red of the sun. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- A pine that points. The black pine stretches sideways off the cliff, giving the vertical sheet a strong horizontal line.
- Big sun, small palette. A large red sun is the only warm color, set against gray ink and beige.
- Brushwork you can see. The cliff is built from visible ink strokes, so up close it reads as texture and from across the room as rock.
- A seal in red. The small red seal with 静けさ echoes the sun and finishes the composition.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
In a living room, hang it on a beige, oatmeal or warm gray wall above a low sofa or a wood bench. Stone, linen and dark-stained oak suit its ink tones. 24" x 36" works above most sofas; on a narrow wall beside a bookcase, 18" x 24" is enough. Pair it with a bonsai or a small potted pine on a side table to bring the tree into the room.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is there lettering on the print? Only a small red seal holding the Japanese characters 静けさ. The rest of the sheet is image: cliff, pine and sun.
Will it work on a warm gray wall? Yes. Warm gray sits close to the beige ground and lets the red sun stand out as the only strong color.
What should I hang next to it? A second ink landscape or a plain red sun print keeps the palette tight. Busy color prints beside it would fight the empty beige ground.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
