A Piazza del Campo Siena poster taken from a rooftop above the square: the fan of brick paving sloping down towards the palace, the tall bell tower with its pale crenellated crown, and roofs running away to low hills behind.
About the artwork
The square is drawn as a tilted plane, a shallow shell that opens towards the viewer and falls away to the palace at its lowest point, split into segments by lines of pale stone. That slope is doing the composing. Around it the buildings crowd in at every angle, brick faces in coral, salmon and dusty rose with rows of arched windows, roofs cutting across each other in short overlapping planes. The bell tower is the only true vertical, set right of centre, its red brick shaft rising the full height of the picture to a white stone gallery and a small belfry on top. Nearest to you the paving itself fills the bottom of the frame, close enough to see it laid in herringbone courses. Figures are little more than dark marks scattered across the square. The sky is pale, with flat peach cloud bands low down. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Italy beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The shell-shaped square. That sloping fan is unmistakable and it is drawn from high enough to actually see the shape.
- One tower, one field of roofs. A single strong vertical against a mass of small horizontal planes.
- Coral, salmon and slate. Close to a single-colour print, with cool blue-grey shadow doing all the separating.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The warm brick range makes this a bedroom or sitting-room print, and it glows against dusty pink, warm white and soft brown walls. Terracotta pots, aged brass and a bit of cane keep it in the same register; cold steel and stark white gloss do not. An espresso or dark walnut frame contains all that coral, while a natural oak frame lets it spread. It hangs naturally with the Bologna print, which looks down over the same kind of tiled roofscape.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Why does the square look tilted? Because it is — the paving slopes down towards the palace, and the drawing is made from above so you can read that fall across the whole surface.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
