A Paint Mines Interpretive Park poster looking along the eroded clay spires. A tall hoodoo stands at the left under a dark ironstone cap, and behind it a row of shorter columns and fins steps back toward a grassy prairie rim dotted with pines. The bands of colour run horizontally through every spire, the way the clay actually weathers here.
About the artwork
Painterly illustration with fine vertical striation on the rock faces rather than flat vector fills. The palette is the point: chalk white and pale grey in the upper clay, a hard yellow ochre band, brick and terracotta red below it, and cool lilac and mauve through the spires to the right, all capped by chocolate-brown ironstone. Prairie grass runs gold and olive across the foreground with sage shrubs and a yucca, and the sky is clear blue with a bank of cream cumulus behind the ridge. White capitals stack in three lines at the base: PAINT MINES, INTERPRETIVE PARK, COLORADO. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Colour that is real, not stylised — the white, gold, red and lavender bands come from the oxidised clay the park is named for.
- Front Range prairie, not mountains — a Colorado print with no snowy peak in it, which makes it stand apart on a wall of Rockies art.
- Strong silhouettes — the capped hoodoo at the left gives the composition a clear anchor from across the room.
- Warm palette that works with earth tones — terracotta and ochre sit easily beside clay, leather and rattan.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The ochre and terracotta bands pull warm, so this sits best on cream, oat or soft white walls, or on a clay-painted feature wall where the lavender spires cool it down. Natural oak frames match the gold grass, as in the arched alcove and teak sideboard photographs above. In a dining room, an espresso frame deepens the red band without dulling the white clay.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The striation in the clay rewards 24" x 36" or larger above a sideboard. At 12" x 18" the capped spire and the colour bands still read, which makes small sizes good in a group of desert prints.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed in standard 2:3 proportions. Framed canvas arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? Three lines of white capitals at the bottom: PAINT MINES, then INTERPRETIVE PARK, then COLORADO letterspaced underneath — the full park name as it appears on site.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
