An Oxford travel poster drawn from low down on the cobbles at the end of the day, looking up the lane to the round domed library with the pinnacled college towers behind it and the light coming in almost flat along the street.
About the artwork
The print is built on one-point perspective and two temperatures. The lane runs straight away from you and the low sun cuts across it, so the paving splits into a wedge of raked amber and a wedge of cold indigo shadow. The rotunda closes the view: a drum of paired columns, a balustrade, then the ribbed dome and its lantern, gold on the left face and blue-grey on the right. Beyond it the college range carries finials and crocketed pinnacles picked out one by one. On the right a tall iron railing with spear tips throws a ladder of shadows across the pavement, and a chapel end with traceried windows stands behind it. Look close and every cobble is its own rounded lozenge with a small dark crescent under it. Hard-edged, flat colour, no gradients except in the sky. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with England beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The light does the work. One raking sunbeam splits the street into gold and blue and holds the whole composition together.
- Every cobble is drawn. The foreground rewards standing close to it, which is rare in a city print.
- Two colours, firmly held. Amber and deep teal only, so it reads clearly from across a room.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The scholarly one. It belongs in a study, a home office or a room with books, where the amber and indigo can sit against navy, deep green or warm grey paint. Leather, brass and dark timber suit it; so does a walnut or black frame, both of which push the gold forward. Cream walls work too but keep the frame dark or the shadows go soft. It hangs well next to the Edinburgh Castle or Bath prints as a British stone-and-spires group.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Which building is at the end of the lane? The round domed library that stands in the square at the heart of the old university quarter, seen from the cobbled street that runs up to it.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
