An Orvieto travel poster seen from the meadows below: a whole town standing on the flat top of a sheer tufa cliff, the cathedral's banded and gilded front catching the light at the edge, and the Umbrian valley opening away to the right.
About the artwork
Two pictures in one, divided by the cliff. On the left the rock rises in a single sheer face of warm apricot, ochre and pink-grey, drawn in vertical facets with shadow pooling in the fissures and green scrub at its foot. Along the top edge the town crowds right up to the drop: terracotta pantiles, pale plaster, arched windows, a square battlemented bell tower. The cathedral is the set piece — a tall gabled front in banded stone with a gold mosaic gable, a rose window with a clock face and slim pinnacles, drawn finely enough to count the gables. On the right the land falls into a broad valley of green and gold field patches stitched with hedgerows, dark cypress spires, red-roofed farms and blue hills under cumulus. Grey boulders sit in the foreground meadow. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Italy beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A town on a plinth. The whole place sits on one flat-topped block of rock, which is why it is drawn from below.
- The cathedral front in detail. Gold gable, rose window and clock face, all readable at 16" x 24".
- Warm rock against a green valley. Ochre and terracotta on one side, field greens and blues on the other.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Detailed enough to reward a chair beside it, so it suits a reading corner, a study or a living room where people sit close. Olive green, soft clay and warm white walls follow the rock, and it works with oak, leather, wool and aged brass. A warm oak frame with a cream mount suits the stone; espresso deepens the shadows in the cliff. Hang it beside the Tuscan hills print for a central Italy pair.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the gold on the cathedral? Mosaic panels set into the gables of the front, which read as gold leaf in the artwork and are the brightest point anywhere on the sheet.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
