An Obidos travel poster looking down a cobbled lane at low sun: whitewashed houses with ochre and blue trim, magenta bougainvillea over a rough stone wall, and the walled town's square keep standing above green hills.
About the artwork
The lane runs down the frame as a long diagonal, and the cobbles are drawn stone by stone, half in cool blue shadow and half in the cream of late light, so the paving carries most of the composition on its own. On the right a wall of rough limestone blocks rises the full height of the picture, with a cream and ochre house against it, a dark doorway, blue-framed windows and clay pots fixed to the plaster; chips and flaking paint are picked out a shade lighter. The left edge is darker, with a shuttered house and a wrought-iron lamp on a bracket. Behind the roofline the ramparts run along the ridge past the crenellated keep, a white church tower and a dome, and the plain falls away in flat bands of blue-green to a peach sky. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Portugal beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Low sun down a narrow street. The long shadows across the cobbles are the reason this view works.
- Magenta against lime white. One hot colour in a warm neutral scene, which is what makes it read.
- A walled town behind. Keep, ramparts and church tower, all in frame without crowding it.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Warm, earthy and low in contrast, which makes it easy in a living room, a dining corner or a landing that gets little daylight. It sits well on cream, oatmeal and clay-coloured walls, and beside terracotta, rattan and old pine. Natural oak or walnut frames follow the roof tiles; a white frame keeps the whitewash bright. Group it with the Sarlat-la-Caneda or Gordes prints for a set of old-town streets.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the tower in the middle distance? The town's castle keep, with the ramparts running along the ridge beside it and a white church tower and dome lower down among the rooftops.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
