An Oakland, California travel poster taken from the hills above Lake Merritt. The lake fills the lower half in flat teal, ringed by lawns and heavy oaks. Behind it stands a tall cream clock tower capped with a green copper spire, a colonnaded civic building with matching green roofs at its feet, and the downtown blocks rising into the golden East Bay hills.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes, hard edges, no outlines, with light handled as blocks of tone rather than gradients. The palette is easy to count: teal and steel blue for the lake, three greens for the oaks and the copper roofs, ivory and bone for the towers, terracotta for the tiled roofs in the foreground, and dry gold-brown for the hills. A small white colonnade sits on the near shore at lower left and a tile-roofed turret closes the bottom right corner. Faint white sparkles mark the water. Typography is set in white at the top: OAKLAND above CALIFORNIA, all caps, generously spaced. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Lake Merritt as the subject — the water and its park ring carry the composition, not a generic downtown wall.
- The green copper spire — the clock tower gives the print a single, unmistakable vertical anchor.
- Warm and cool together — teal water against gold hills and terracotta tile, so it sits well in rooms with wood.
- Genuinely East Bay — for people who walk the lake loop, not another view across the water.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The gold hills and terracotta roofs mean this one likes warm walls. It looks settled against the terracotta room in the photographs above, and just as good on cream or clay. If your walls are white, pick up the teal of the lake in a cushion or a ceramic and let the oaks do the rest. Oak and rattan furniture suit it better than black metal.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The tree line and the far skyline hold fine detail, so 24" x 36" and up rewards a closer look. For a gallery wall or a small office, 12" x 18" still reads clearly.
Does it come framed? Paper ships rolled and unframed. Matte canvas is stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? Two lines of white capitals in the sky: OAKLAND, with CALIFORNIA below it. Nothing else is lettered on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
