A nafplio travel poster drawn from out on the water, looking back at the old waterfront with its pantile roofs and shuttered facades, the fortress ridge standing over the town and bare mountains layered behind it.
About the artwork
The colour is deliberately faded, like an old lithograph left too long in the light, and that sets it apart from the brighter island scenes. The lower third is sea in a warm teal, and across it lie hundreds of small four-pointed gold glints in loose ranks, thinning as the water reaches the quay. The waterfront runs as a continuous band: two- and three-storey houses in cream, butter, apricot and dusty rose, pantile roofs drawn course by course, shutters in teal and olive, iron balconies, date palms and bougainvillea against the lower walls. Behind them the roofs climb in overlapping ranks. Then the rock: a great ochre and violet headland, fissured and streaked, carrying a fortress along its ridge with bastion corners and walls stepping down toward the town. Two flat blue-grey mountain layers close the distance under a pale duck-egg sky. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Greece beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Glints on the water. The little gold stars scattered across the teal are the first thing anyone notices in the room.
- Roofs in every warm tone. Butter, apricot, rose and terracotta stacked in ranks, drawn roof by roof.
- A fortress on the ridge. Curtain walls and bastions run the length of the crag and give the town its backdrop.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The faded, mid-century feel makes this a good study or dining-room print, somewhere lamplit rather than sun-filled. It sits well on stone, mushroom, muted teal and olive walls, and it likes walnut furniture, brass, rattan and old books nearby. A walnut or espresso frame reads as period-correct; black is too hard for it and washes the sea out. Because the palette is warm rather than bright, it also works in a hallway with low light. It groups neatly with the Corfu old town print.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is on top of the rock? The hill fortress above the old town, drawn with its curtain walls, bastion corners and the walls that step down the shoulder toward the houses.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
