A Monument Valley poster taken at the end of the day: a tall mitten-shaped butte standing on its own talus slope at the left, two smaller buttes and a pair of slender spires along the horizon, a straight road running out across the valley floor toward the low sun, and juniper and desert grass filling the foreground on both sides.
About the artwork
Detailed painted illustration with hard-edged rock forms and soft, banded sky work — not a flat vector poster. The palette moves from deep petrol blue at the top through teal to a wide band of amber and orange at the horizon, with the sun sitting as a pale gold disc just above the far mesas. The sandstone is rendered in rust, brick and shadowed plum; the valley floor is olive and dry gold; the foreground junipers are near-black green. Cloud banks are lit gold along their undersides. White type sits low on the print: MONUMENT VALLEY above ARIZONA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A place that belongs to a nation. This valley sits inside Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, land held and managed by the Navajo Nation — a park with its own gate, entry fee and hours, separate from the national park system.
- Scale you can read instantly. The road thinning to a line against a butte hundreds of feet high is the whole point of the composition.
- Warm without being loud. Amber and rust are balanced by a deep blue upper sky, so it stays calm on a wall.
- Built for low light. The dark sky and lit clouds hold their depth under a lamp in the evening.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Rust, amber and deep blue make this an easy fit for warm rooms — terracotta, clay, leather and walnut. On a white wall the orange horizon band carries the piece; on a deep clay or olive wall the blue sky becomes the contrast instead. Espresso and natural frames suit the sandstone tones; black works if the room already leans graphic, as in the console shot above.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The sky takes up more than half the image, so larger sizes pay off: 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" over a sofa or bed. At 12" x 18" the far spires start to lose definition.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Is Monument Valley in Arizona or Utah? The valley straddles the state line. The tribal park entrance, visitor centre and the scenic drive are on the Arizona side, which is why the print is labelled Arizona. Visits are arranged through the Navajo Nation's own park office, with its own admission and seasonal hours.
What does the poster say? Two lines in white at the base: MONUMENT VALLEY and ARIZONA.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
