A Montpelier Vermont travel poster looking down into the valley from a wooded hillside. The gold dome of the State House catches the light at the centre, its white columned portico set against a wall of forest, with clapboard houses and a white church spire filling the town below and ridge after ridge of green hills folding away behind.
About the artwork
A layered, painterly illustration with soft edges and a fine grain, built up in receding planes rather than flat blocks. The palette is almost all green: deep spruce in the foreground firs, warm mid-green on the sunlit slopes, and pale blue-green on the furthest ridges, under a clear pale sky. The State House provides the only strong contrast — a burnished ochre-gold dome and cream stonework, with a small gold statue on the lantern. Below it the houses are picked out in cream, pale sage, dusty rose and grey with dark pitched roofs. Foreground conifer branches frame the right edge and the lower corners. Type is set in white capitals at the top, MONTPELIER above a spaced VERMONT. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The gold dome in the trees — the single detail that makes Montpelier look like nowhere else, and the focal point of the whole picture.
- A town inside its landscape — the hills dominate, which is honest to the smallest state capital in the country.
- Depth in green — four or five distinct greens stacked from foreground firs to the palest far ridge.
- Quiet enough to live with — no hard graphic edges, so it reads as landscape painting more than as signage.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
All those greens sit naturally against cream, oatmeal and warm white, and they are entirely at home on the sage wall shown in the photographs above. Natural oak and walnut frames echo the wooded slopes; the gold frame picks up the dome directly if you want to lean into it. Good in a living room, a bedroom, or anywhere you want the wall to feel cooler and calmer.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The town detail is small, so 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" lets you pick out individual houses and the spire. At 12" x 18" it works as a green landscape with a gold point in it.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What is the gold building? The Vermont State House, whose dome is gilded and sits below the treeline in the middle of town rather than above a city skyline.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
