A monsaraz travel poster in two colours only: hot amber rock and deep petrol blue. A faint path climbs a whole hillside of cracked stone to the white village on the ridge, with the castle keep at one end and the flat plain and a pale reservoir spread out beyond.
About the artwork
The foreground takes more than half the sheet and it is nothing but bedded rock — long flat slabs tilted towards you, every sunlit face in bright orange or pale apricot, every crack and joint in dark navy. A thin walked path threads up through it, visible mostly as a break in the pattern. Dry grass tufts and two dark scrub masses sit at the edges. On the ridge the village is compact and bright: a tight row of whitewashed houses with terracotta roofs, a bell gable among them, a low wall and a round bastion on the right, and a square dark keep with battlements holding the left end. Behind, the plain runs flat and amber to the horizon, cut through by a wide pale blue reservoir with orange shorelines. The sky is one deep unbroken blue. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Portugal beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Two colours, nothing else. Orange and blue at full strength, which is why it reads across a whole room.
- Rock drawn like a map. Every crack in the stone is its own shape, and it rewards standing close.
- The castle keeps the ridge. A dark battlemented block anchoring one end of the white village.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
This is the loudest print in the group, so treat it as the one thing on its wall. It is at its best on white, bone or deep charcoal, and it will fight a busy wallpaper. The orange lives happily with terracotta tile, unglazed pottery, saddle leather and cane. A black frame is the cleanest option and holds the two-tone graphic together; espresso softens it in a room with warm wood.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Why is everything orange and blue? The design is a deliberate two-colour reduction of late Alentejo light: sunlit stone pushed to amber, every shadow pushed to blue, with no greens or greys in between.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
