A Monemvasia travel poster seen from the shore across the water: a flat-topped rock rising straight out of the sea, the ochre lower town packed along its base, and a long wave breaking white over dark rocks in front.
About the artwork
Two things are set against each other. The rock is stillness, a tawny and grey mass with a flat crown, its cliff faces cut into broad angular planes, green scrub filling the gullies and a warmer light catching the side that faces the open water. Along its foot runs the lower town, a dense band of small ochre houses with tiled roofs, and a wall that carries on to the left along the causeway until it meets the shore. The bottom half is all movement: cobalt sea in long swells with darker troughs, one wave breaking across the middle in a crest that tears into foam, and near the bottom edge water pouring over brown rock in ribbons. The sky is flat deep blue with no cloud at all. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Greece beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A town you almost miss. The houses are drawn small along the base, so the rock keeps its scale.
- Real surf, not decoration. The breaking wave has its crest, spill and backwash.
- Cobalt and ochre. Two colours worked hard, which is why it stays legible at any size.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Strong blue and simple shapes, so it can carry a wall on its own above a sofa or a bed. It looks right against white, off-white and pale grey, and beside natural linen, pale oak and unglazed ceramic. A white or oak frame keeps the blue clean; black makes it heavier and more graphic. Hang it with the Balos Lagoon print for a Greek pair.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the town at the base of the rock? The lower town, a tight band of ochre houses and tiled roofs along the foot of the cliff, with the sea wall running out to the causeway on the left.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
