A rhodes harbour poster drawn from the quay at the water's edge, with a round limestone bastion rising straight out of the sea, the two bronze deer standing on their columns at the harbour mouth and clear turquoise water in the whole foreground.
About the artwork
Stone and water split this print between them, and both are drawn with the same patience. The bastion on the left is a massive drum with a battered base, a string course and square merlons, its ashlar set out block by block in pale sand, honey and grey, so the curve of the wall is described by the coursing rather than by shading. A paved quay with a low parapet runs in from the bottom left. In the centre a gateway platform carries the two deer on their columns in weathered bronze green, small against the walls but exactly where the eye lands. Behind them a crenellated fort with square towers, a round tower under a red tile roof and a flagstaff. The water is the other half: turquoise over pale rock, rust patches of weed showing through, orange reflections broken into flakes and brown sunlit boulders in the corner. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Greece beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Masonry drawn block by block. The bastion is described by its stone coursing, which is why it holds up at large sizes.
- The two bronze deer. A small, specific detail at the harbour mouth that no other print in the range has.
- Water you can see the bottom of. Weed, rock and broken reflections read through the turquoise in the foreground.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Sandy stone and turquoise make this an easy fit for a living room or a wide hallway, particularly where there is texture already: plaster, concrete, stone tile, heavy linen. Warm grey, greige and off-white walls carry it best, and it holds up on charcoal too because the limestone is so pale. Natural oak echoes the stone; black frames the water. Hang it low over a sideboard so the foreground reads at eye level. It sits beside the Lindos print as a second view of the same island.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is this the same island as the Lindos print? Yes, one island in two places: this is the walled harbour of the main town in the north, the Lindos print the white village under its citadel on the east coast.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
