A McWay Falls Big Sur poster seen from the overlook trail, looking down into the cove. A thin white fall drops from the cliff straight onto the tan sand, one clean line of surf curves around the beach, and the water inside the cove goes from milky aqua to deep Pacific blue. Two dark conifer trunks stand at the left and right edges of the sheet and frame the whole view.
About the artwork
Detailed painted illustration with a strong sense of depth: layered headland rock in grey and buff, dense cypress and Monterey pine in blue-green and olive, and a beach worked in warm sand and stone. The ocean is built from bands of turquoise, teal and slate blue with a pale gold haze on the horizon; a low bank of cream cumulus sits above the sea line. Red-flowering coastal scrub fills the bottom corners. The title sits at the base in white: MCWAY FALLS above CALIFORNIA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A waterfall that lands on a beach — a rare thing anywhere, and the reason this cove is on every Highway 1 itinerary.
- Framed by trees, not cropped flat — the two trunks reproduce the way you actually see the cove from the fenced trail.
- Coastal colour that stays calm — aqua and deep blue with muted green, no neon.
- A precise Big Sur memory — one named cove rather than a general coast road view.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Aqua, sand and deep green suit white, chalk or pale blue walls and pair easily with linen, rattan and driftwood tones. A white frame keeps it airy for a bedroom or bathroom; espresso picks up the tree trunks and makes it read heavier in a living room. It sits comfortably in a bright room with sheer curtains, much like the window settings in the photographs above.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? 16" x 24" or 18" x 27" works for a bedroom or a bathroom wall. Over a sofa, 24" x 36" lets the cove and the surf line read from across the room.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Is this the same as the Big Sur print? No. This one is the McWay Falls cove in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, a single close view. The store also has a separate Big Sur design covering the wider coastline, so the two work as a pair rather than duplicates.
What does the poster say? The white lettering reads MCWAY FALLS over CALIFORNIA. The cove is off Highway 1 south of Big Sur village, viewed from the overlook trail — the beach itself is closed to visitors.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
