A marstrand travel poster looking across open water to the island: a round pale stone fortress on the summit, the wooden town packed down the slope in red and ochre, rows of moored sailing boats along both shores, and the channel between broken up by hard gold sun glitter.
About the artwork
Three horizontal layers, tightly organised. In front, two big masses of granite push in from the bottom left, warm cream and tan with pink in the joints, cracked into long clefts and shaded enough to feel solid. Then the water: a rich even blue carrying a dense field of star-shaped glints across the right half — small crossed flares rather than soft highlights, which is what gives the print its sparkle. The island sits on top of that. The fortress is a squat drum of pale grey-tan masonry with a low round tower and a mast, and below it the houses run down in a tight grid of small gabled roofs, orange-red mostly, with white, ochre and pale blue walls. Along the waterline sit dozens of white hulls with bare masts, and one motor cruiser lies out on open water at the left. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Sweden beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The fortress crowns it. A round stone drum on bare rock, the shape people remember about this island.
- A masted harbour. Dozens of boats drawn individually, so the sailing town reads at a glance.
- Gold on deep blue. The sun glitter is the print's signature and it holds up at large sizes.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Deeper and more saturated than the other Swedish coast designs, so it can take a strong wall. Navy, petrol blue and deep green make the gold glitter jump; a warm off-white keeps it brighter and more nautical. It suits brass, rope, dark walnut and leather, which makes a study, a stairwell or a boat-minded den its natural home. Black or espresso frames both work. Hang it near the Suomenlinna Fortress print for a sea-fortress pair.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the round building on top of the island? The stone fortress that crowns the town, drawn as a low circular keep with a tower and a mast, sitting directly on bare rock above the roofs.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
