A marseille travel poster looking down over the old port: hundreds of white masts packed along the quays, a broad stone promenade with people walking it in the foreground, and the basilica standing on its pale limestone hill above the terracotta rooftops.
About the artwork
The masts are the whole trick. Drawn as fine vertical white lines in their hundreds, they create a texture that reads as pure pattern from across the room and resolves into individual boats when you stand close. Below them the water is turquoise and steel blue with the rigging reflected in broken verticals. The promenade in the foreground is warm sand-coloured stone with long shadows and small figures in blue, rust and cream, which gives the picture its sense of scale. Behind the harbour the city stacks up in cream and apricot blocks under orange-red roof tiles, and the hill rises pale and dry to the basilica at the top. The sky is soft blue with peach cloud. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with France beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The mast texture. Hundreds of fine white verticals — the detail people stop and look at.
- The basilica on the hill. A skyline landmark that makes the view unmistakably Marseille.
- Turquoise, terracotta and cream. Straightforward Mediterranean colour that mixes easily.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
A good living-room or hallway print — the horizontal harbour band gives it a calm centre of gravity, and the terracotta roofs warm up a cool room. It works against white, sand and pale blue walls, and beside rattan, linen and light wood. Oak frames follow the stone; black frames pull out the masts. Hang it with the Nice, Monte Carlo or Eze prints for a Mediterranean coast wall.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the building on the hill? The hilltop basilica that overlooks the city, seen here from the far side of the old port.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
