A Lombard Street San Francisco poster looking straight up the crooked block from the intersection at the bottom. Red brick switchbacks zigzag up the hill between banks of lavender hydrangea, apartment buildings press in on both sides, and a green and cream cable car crosses the foreground on the level street below.
About the artwork
Flat hard-edged shapes with strong afternoon shadows and no outlines. The palette is built on complements: terracotta and brick red for the paving and the stucco block on the left, lavender and violet in the hydrangea beds, and half a dozen greens for the hedges, street trees and the cable car body. A cream concrete intersection fills the bottom quarter with painted crossing lines, a red-flowering tree stands out on the right, and slim white lamp posts break the vertical. The sky is flat cyan. The type reads SAN FRANCISCO with CALIFORNIA beneath it, in white. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The zigzag reads instantly — eight brick hairpins stacked up the frame make this recognisable from across a room.
- Hydrangeas in full bloom — the lavender beds are the summer version of the street, not the bare winter one.
- A cable car in the corner — the one moving thing in an otherwise still picture, and drawn in its green and cream livery.
- Brick red against lavender — an unusual colour pairing that lifts a neutral room without adding another blue print.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The lavender and brick combination is warm enough for a clay or oatmeal wall and bright enough for plain white. It sits especially well beside terracotta, as the walnut sideboard shot in the photographs above shows, since the wall colour repeats the paving. Natural oak frames keep the hydrangeas soft; a black frame sharpens the brick geometry if you want the zigzag to dominate.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? There is dense detail in the windows and the flower beds, so 18" x 24" is the smallest that does it justice. Over a sofa, 24" x 36".
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship rolled and unframed. Matte canvas is stretched and ready to hang, and framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? The printed type reads SAN FRANCISCO with CALIFORNIA below it. Lombard Street itself is not named on the artwork.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
