A Leuven travel poster taken from the paved square in late afternoon: the lace-fronted town hall in honey-coloured stone bristling with turrets and pinnacles, church spires rising behind it, and a long run of red cafe parasols filling the right-hand side.
About the artwork
The composition is a wedge. Paving runs from the bottom corner up to the town hall, which stands slightly left of centre with its three tiers of arched windows and statue niches drawn one by one, each little spire and finial picked out against a flat teal sky. Behind and to the left, the openwork spires of the church stand paler and cooler, deliberately held back so the town hall keeps the foreground. On the right the square fills up: scarlet parasols in a row, dark bentwood chairs and small round tables underneath, and figures reading in the shade. The stone is worked in cream, wheat and pale gold; the shadows are long and violet-grey and stripe the paving diagonally. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Belgium beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A facade drawn in full. The town hall's pinnacles, niches and window tracery are rendered piece by piece rather than blurred.
- Red against teal. The parasols supply the only hot colour, and the flat blue sky makes them sing.
- It has people in it. Tables, chairs and figures give the square a working, everyday feel.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Warm stone and cafe red make it an easy kitchen, dining room or breakfast-nook print. It works on cream, clay and soft white walls, and against teal or petrol-blue paint the sky reads as a deliberate match. Pair it with oak, cane and warm brass rather than chrome. A natural oak frame picks up the honey stone; black tightens the whole thing up. It hangs well next to the Mechelen or Bamberg prints as a Flemish and Rhineland pair.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Which building is in the foreground? The late-Gothic town hall on the Grote Markt, with its heavily carved and pinnacled front; the taller openwork spires behind it belong to the church across the square.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
