A Landwasser Viaduct poster caught at the moment the train is on the bridge: tall terracotta-red arches striding out of the cliff, a line of scarlet carriages running along the parapet, and dark spruce forest dropping away into the gorge underneath.
About the artwork
The viaduct enters from the left on a curve and carries the eye clean across the sheet, its piers stepping down into shadow so you read the depth of the gorge without being shown the bottom of it. The masonry is worked in warm brick red and rust, course by course, with the pale limestone cliff behind it in peach, apricot and cool grey. On the right the rock turns almost black-green, and the track runs straight into a tunnel mouth cut in the face — the detail people notice second, after the train. Spruce are drawn as flat layered silhouettes in teal and near-black, thinning where a snow-streaked peak shows through the notch. Far below, a thread of pale road and river catches the light. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Switzerland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The red train is the whole point. One scarlet line across a blue-green gorge, and the picture organises itself around it.
- Engineering as landscape. Six arches drawn with real masonry courses, not a suggestion of a bridge.
- Rust red against forest teal. A narrow palette that holds together from across a room.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The deep teal and near-black greens make this a good print for a room with some weight in it — a study, a hallway with darker paint, a den in slate or forest green. Warm white and stone walls let the red masonry do the work. It sits well with walnut and dark oak, brass lamps and leather. A black frame follows the pines; natural oak warms the brickwork instead. Hang it beside the Appenzell or Creux du Van prints for a Swiss group.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What am I looking at in the picture? A red train crossing the curved stone viaduct over the Landwasser gorge in Graubunden, with the track running straight into a tunnel cut in the cliff at the far end.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
