A Colmar travel poster looking down the canal in the Petite Venise quarter: half-timbered houses leaning in from both banks in pink, blue, ochre and mint, geraniums spilling from every window box, and the whole row breaking apart again in the water below.
About the artwork
The reflection is half the picture and it is drawn, not mirrored — the colours are the same but the shapes dissolve into vertical ripples of teal, coral and gold, so the lower half reads as moving water rather than a flipped copy. Above the waterline the drawing is tight: every timber frame is picked out in its own dark brown, the render between the beams gets a separate colour per house, and the shutters, dormers and clay pantiles are all resolved. The flowers are the accent — deep magenta bougainvillea and pink geraniums scattered along both banks, the only fully saturated notes against a soft blue sky. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with France beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The reflection carries the bottom half. A hard thing to draw well, and it is the reason the print holds a wall.
- Half-timbering in full colour. Six or seven house colours in one frame without it turning to noise.
- Storybook without being twee. Drawn straight, so it works in a grown-up room.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Warm and colourful, so it wants a plain wall and a quiet frame — white, bone or the palest grey behind it, natural oak or white around it. It is a good kitchen, hallway or dining room print where a bit of colour is welcome. Avoid pairing it with another saturated cityscape; a calm landscape makes a better neighbour. Go 16" x 24" or larger so the timber framing stays crisp.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Where is the view from? From the footbridge at the end of the canal quarter, looking along the water between the two banks of houses.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
