A Kylemore Abbey poster from the far shore of the lake on a windless morning: the pale battlemented house sitting low against the foot of a dark green mountain, woods crowding in on both sides of it, and the whole thing repeated in the black-green water below.
About the artwork
It is a picture of two halves that answer each other. The upper half is the mountain, drawn in long diagonal facets of deep green and grey-brown with the gullies and scree runs cut in as darker wedges, rising out of the top of the frame so you never see its summit. Set against that mass the abbey is small and bright: grey-white granite, stepped battlements, a round turret at one end and a square tower at the other, with sash windows in neat rows and dark yews clipped along the terrace in front. A single pale birch leans in from the left edge, and low shrubs sit in the bottom corner. The lower half is the reflection, softened by faint ripples and a little darker than the scene above, with the abbey's white front laid out across the water as a broken column of light. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Ireland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A near-perfect mirror. Still water doubles the picture and gives it its symmetry.
- Scale you can feel. A large house made small by the mountain behind it.
- Deep green and cool white. A restrained palette that suits quiet rooms.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Dark green and still water make this a calming print, well suited to a bedroom, a reading corner or a bathroom wall away from steam. It works on white, mushroom and deep green walls, and beside wool, stone and dark timber. Espresso and black frames sink into the mountain; natural oak lifts the granite of the house. It hangs well with the Kilkenny and Kinsale prints, or with other lake and mountain scenes in the collection.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the water in front of the abbey? The Connemara lake it was built beside, drawn calm enough to hold a full reflection of the house and the hillside.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
