A Kilkenny travel poster looking upriver along the Nore: the grey castle with its round drum towers standing above a stone river wall on the right, clipped lawns and a gravel path running below it, and the terraces and spires of the town lining the far bank in the low sun.
About the artwork
The river fills the lower half and carries the light. It is drawn in bands of blue and teal with the sun scattered across it as small white star-points, a device that keeps a large flat area alive without busying it. The right bank curves in from the bottom corner: a limestone retaining wall, a bright green sweep of mown grass, a path with a lamp on it, and shrubs and trees along the top. Above them the castle sits square and grey, drum towers at the corners with crenellated tops and narrow windows, warm cream buildings tucked in beside it. The left bank is quieter — a low stone wall, willows, and a run of houses in pale pink, ochre and cream stepping into the distance, with two church spires and a square tower breaking the skyline. Blue-grey hills close the view. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Ireland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The sparkle on the Nore. Small points of light across the water give the print its quiet energy.
- Castle and town together. Towers on one bank, painted terraces and spires on the other.
- Teal, grey and grass green. A cool Irish palette that stays gentle on a wall.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cool greens and greys make this a restful print for a bedroom, a hall or a snug. It works on white, dove grey and deeper green walls, and beside oak, wool and aged brass. Black frames pick up the castle stone and the spires; natural oak leans the print towards the riverbank greens. It pairs well with the Kinsale or Kylemore Abbey prints for a set of three from Ireland.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What are the round towers on the right? The corner drum towers of the castle above the river wall, drawn with their battlements and narrow window slits.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
