This Katmai National Park watercolor print shows brown bears fishing at Brooks Falls in Alaska, waiting on the lip of the falls as red salmon leap upstream. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the river, not an exact view.
About the artwork
The curtain of the falls is left as white paper with fine ink marks for the foam, and the river is layered in clear turquoise so red salmon show beneath the surface. Green washes, red-pink splatter and long drips run along the left and bottom edges. Brooks Falls stretches across the center, with bears standing on its edge and a wooden viewing platform full of visitors on the left. Brooks River tumbles over rocks in the middle ground, spruce forest and snowy mountains rise behind, and the foreground shows clear water over cobbles. Lush green trees and the salmon run mark midsummer. "KATMAI" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Four brown bears. Bears fish from the top of the falls and in the river below.
- Leaping red salmon. Sockeye salmon jump up the falls and swim through the clear shallows.
- Viewing platform. A small group of visitors watches from the wooden platform at left.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Turquoise, spruce green and bear brown suit a lodge-style living room, a den or a kid's bedroom with wood and plaid. It is a perfect gift for a wildlife photographer, a bear-cam fan or someone who flew out to watch the bears in person.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Katmai National Park? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Brooks Falls; the background shows snowy mountains rather than low hills, and other details are simplified.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "KATMAI," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
