A Hoover Dam travel poster taken from downstream, low in the canyon. Red rock walls fill both edges of the frame and the turquoise river runs between them straight back to the dam, which curves across the gorge in pale concrete with its intake towers and the spillway apron picked out below. Beyond it the canyon opens onto layered desert ranges under a warm, washed-out sky.
About the artwork
Hard-edged shapes with heavy directional striation in the rock, mimicking the bedding planes of the canyon walls. The palette runs terracotta, rust and salmon on the sunlit cliffs, cool mauve and slate in the shaded faces, and a strong turquoise-to-cerulean gradient down the length of the water. The dam itself is drawn in bone and pale grey so it reads as the one man-made thing in the scene, and the far ranges fade through dusty rose to a cream-green sky. Typography sits high in white capitals: HOOVER DAM, with NEVADA smaller beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Canyon first, engineering second — the rock takes two thirds of the frame, which is what makes the dam look as big as it is.
- Turquoise cutting through rust — a clean split between warm stone and cold water, no muddy middle.
- Striated rock texture — the cliffs are carved in fine parallel lines, worth looking at close up.
- For the road-trip crowd — the Nevada desert as most people first see it, from the river below.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Rust and terracotta make this a natural on a clay or warm white wall, and the turquoise river gives a cool anchor so the room does not go entirely earthy. The terracotta-wall setting in the photographs above is the closest match; espresso and natural frames both sit inside the palette. Strong in a home office or a hallway, and an easy pair with canyon and desert prints.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The vertical canyon shape suits a narrow wall, so 12" x 18" or 16" x 24" fits between doors and windows. Over a desk or a console, 24" x 36" shows the rock striations properly.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame, wired and ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The printed text reads HOOVER DAM with NEVADA beneath it, matching the name of the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
