A Hochosterwitz Castle poster seen from the fields below: the castle strung along the top of a bare limestone crag that lifts straight out of the woods, a ripe cereal field sloping across the whole foreground, and range after range of blue Carinthian hills fading away behind.
About the artwork
The picture is a climb. It begins in the foreground with a field of ripe grain drawn in fine gold and straw-coloured strokes, close enough that you read individual ears at the bottom edge. Above that a green pasture rises to the right, spotted with round-headed oaks and their long shadows, and dark conifer woods gather around the base of the rock. The crag itself is the hard centre: pale grey limestone in flat, faceted planes with cool blue shadows in the clefts and scrub clinging to the ledges. On its crown the castle runs the length of the summit — pinkish-ochre walls, shingled turret roofs, a squat keep and a walled ramp curling down the eastern slope. To the left the land opens into hazy blue ridges with one pointed peak standing above them. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Austria beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A castle on a rock, drawn properly. Walls, turrets and the ramp up the hillside are all legible.
- Gold field, blue distance. Warm harvest colour in front and cool haze behind, so the depth reads at a glance.
- Quiet enough to live with. Muted greens and blues rather than a high-contrast graphic.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The palette is soft and countryish, which makes it an easy fit for a bedroom, a landing or a home office. It sits well on cream, sage and warm grey walls, and beside linen, rush matting and older wood. A natural oak frame keeps the whole thing warm; espresso adds weight if the wall around it is pale. It hangs happily with the Graz print, or with any of the alpine landscapes in the collection.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is growing in the foreground? A field of ripe cereal, drawn ear by ear along the bottom of the sheet so the castle reads as far above the farmland.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
