A Haystack Rock Cannon Beach poster drawn from the beach at low tide, at the hour when the water pulls back far enough to turn the sand into a mirror. The 235-foot basalt monolith sits dead centre in deep slate, the Needles rise off to either side, pale surf breaks in thin bands along its base, and the whole silhouette runs back down the wet sand toward the viewer.
About the artwork
Flat vector work with hard-edged facets and a short palette: pale ice blue sky that lightens as it drops to the horizon, slate and charcoal for the mass of the rock, cooler mauve-grey on the faces that catch light, cream white for the foam, a soft washed blue for the reflection broken by horizontal streaks, and a band of warm greige dry sand across the foot of the sheet. Sea haze softens the base of the stack so it separates from the water. No sun, no gulls, no figures. The type sits high in the sky in white capitals: HAYSTACK ROCK, with a smaller, wide-tracked OREGON beneath it. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The tide does the work — the mirrored sand gives the lower half of the print a second, softer version of the rock.
- Quiet colour — six cool tones and one warm sand band, nothing that competes with the rest of a room.
- Real scale — the Needles beside the monolith are what tell you how big it actually is.
- Room to breathe — wide empty sky and empty beach make it easy to hang in a small space.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The ice blue and greige read best against plain white, chalk or a pale grey-blue wall. It suits a bedroom or a bathroom, where the empty beach at the bottom of the sheet has space around it. Natural oak keeps the coastal feel, as in the sunroom and bedroom photographs above; a black frame pushes the rock into a harder graphic shape.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The composition is simple, so it scales cleanly. 24 x 36 or 30 x 40 inches over a bed gives the reflection room; 12 x 18 slots into a coastal gallery wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship rolled and unframed. Framed canvas arrives stretched and framed in white, black, espresso or natural wood, with hanging hardware fitted.
What does the poster say? HAYSTACK ROCK across the sky in large white capitals, with OREGON set smaller underneath. Cannon Beach is not printed on the sheet.
Is there another version of this design? Yes. This is the flat vector edition, with the lettering at the top of the sky. The shop also carries a separate painterly, illustrated Haystack Rock print in warmer, heavier brushwork with the lettering set along the bottom of the artwork. Search the shop for the illustrated Haystack Rock print to compare the two.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
