A Hanging Lake Colorado poster looking across the shelf lake perched high above Glenwood Canyon. Two ribbons of water slide over a mossy travertine lip into water that reads turquoise at the edges and deep green in the middle, a bleached log lies half sunk in the shallows, and tan canyon walls and spruce close in on both sides.
About the artwork
Painterly digital illustration built from layered brushwork and fine highlight strokes rather than flat vector shapes. The palette moves from turquoise and jade in the lake to warm tan and grey in the canyon rock, dark blue-green spruce, olive shrubs and a clean cobalt sky with one bank of white cumulus. A thick conifer trunk anchors the left edge, pale dead branches lean over the falls, and small white wildflowers sit on the near bank. The type is printed in white across the lower sheet: HANGING LAKE above COLORADO. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The travertine shelf is the subject — the falls pour over a mineral lip, not a plain rock ledge, and the print keeps that texture.
- Colour that reads as Hanging Lake — the turquoise-to-jade gradient across the water is what people remember from the top of the trail.
- Glenwood Canyon context — the tan cliffs and forested ridge behind place the lake in its canyon instead of floating it on white.
- Earned scenery — a steep 1.2-mile climb and a timed permit stand between the trailhead and this view, which is part of why it hangs well in a hiker's home.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Turquoise and spruce green read cleanly against cool white, pale grey or muted blue walls, and the tan canyon rock keeps it warm enough for oak or walnut. A black frame sharpens the water, as in the console photograph above. It suits a home office or a hallway where the vertical canyon shape has room to breathe.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? 12" x 18" works beside a desk or in a narrow hall. For a main wall choose 24" x 36" so the two falls and the sunken log stay readable from across the room.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The printed type reads HANGING LAKE with COLORADO beneath it, in white at the foot of the image.
Can you just walk up to it? No. Access to the Hanging Lake trail is managed with a timed permit and shuttle from Glenwood Springs, and the trail closes for weather and rockfall repair.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
