This Halifax watercolor print shows the white Halifax Town Clock below the stone walls of the Halifax Citadel, looking out over Halifax Harbour and Georges Island. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Halifax, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
The wooden clock tower is left as white paper with gray-blue shading, a deep blue clock face and a copper-green dome. The Citadel's stone walls are laid in gray-gold blocks, maple trees are loose red-orange washes, and the harbor is a flat Atlantic blue. Clapboard white, Atlantic blue and grassy green lead the palette, with maple red-orange and the red of soldiers' coats as accents. The three-tier tower stands left of center and reaches into the upper third, a cannon and two red-coated soldiers sit on the wall at the left, and a grassy slope runs down to the right. Brick and stone streets with a church spire fill the middle ground, and Georges Island with a white lighthouse sits in the harbor in early fall. "HALIFAX" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Citadel sentries. Two soldiers in red coats and tall fur hats stand guard by a cannon.
- Maple color. Red-orange maples mark the turn of the season.
- Harbor lighthouse. A white lighthouse on Georges Island watches over sailboats and a ferry.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Blue, white and maple red look classic in a living room, a study or a hallway with navy or wood tones. It is a fitting gift for a Nova Scotian living away from home or for someone who visited Halifax in the fall.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Halifax? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Halifax. Some details, like the building under the clock and the soldiers' uniforms, are simplified, so it reads as a portrait of the city rather than an exact view.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "HALIFAX," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
