A Guimaraes travel poster looking up from a paved square in the low sun: old olive trees framing the view from both sides, terracotta roofs climbing the slope in the middle, and the grey granite towers and battlements of the old hill standing hard against a deep blue sky.
About the artwork
Two olive trees do the framing, one at each edge, with gnarled trunks and small silver-green leaves drawn in loose clusters so the sky shows through them. Below, the square is laid in pale stone with the shadows of the trees stretched across it in blue, and a few benches and a bin drawn small to give the scale. The middle band is the town: cream and white houses under orange pantiles, stepping up the hill one roof behind another, with balconies, shutters and washing lines caught in the warm light. Above them the granite rises in flat, hard-edged planes of grey — a tall tower with pinnacles at its corners on the left, a long crenellated wall across the middle, and a square keep to the right, each battlement drawn separately. A single white cloud sits at the right edge. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Portugal beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Framed by olive trees. The foliage at both edges gives the view depth and keeps the eye on the hill.
- Grey granite against blue. Cool stone and a saturated sky, with the warm roofs sitting between them.
- Low evening light. Long shadows on the paving and a warm side-light on every facade.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Deep blue and terracotta make this a strong print, so give it a clear wall rather than a crowded one. It sits well on white, chalk and warm sand, and beside natural linen, cane and unglazed ceramic. A dark walnut frame follows the olive trunks; white keeps the sky bright and the mood lighter. Hang it beside the Viana do Castelo or Cortona prints for a southern European group with the same warm stone.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What are the trees in the foreground? Old olives with silvery leaves, drawn at both edges of the square so the towers are seen through a gap between them.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
