A seigaiha wave print for a bathroom that likes a bit of order. Green overlapping arcs cover the whole sheet on a cream ground, and a Japanese proverb runs down the right side: chase two rabbits and you catch neither. It is calm and tidy, with a small piece of advice to read each morning.
About the artwork
The palette is green on cream. Seigaiha is the traditional overlapping-arc wave pattern, sometimes likened to fish scales, and here it fills the frame edge to edge. On the right, a vertical line carries the proverb in Japanese characters and in Latin letters, NITO O OU MONO WA ITTO O MO EZU, which means that if you chase two rabbits you will catch neither. The design is minimal and flat, with no scene and no shading. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- A proverb with a point. Chase two rabbits and you catch neither, a plain reminder to do one thing at a time.
- Pattern edge to edge. The green seigaiha arcs fill the whole frame, so it hangs like a panel of tile on the wall.
- Readable in two scripts. The proverb appears in Japanese characters and in Latin letters, so guests can sound it out.
- Green that suits plants. Green and cream sit easily beside ferns, white tile and wood, which suits a bathroom.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
In a bathroom, hang it beside the mirror or above the toilet, where the proverb can be read up close. It suits white or cream tile, sage walls, a wood vanity and a few potted ferns. Choose 12" x 18" for a narrow wall or 16" x 24" above a bath. A natural solid wood floating frame keeps the look soft and minimal. Pair it with a plain green towel set or a small botanical line drawing to repeat the green.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What does the proverb on this print mean? It says that if you chase two rabbits, you will catch neither. In other words, split your effort and you may end up with nothing.
What is the pattern called? It is seigaiha, the traditional overlapping-arc wave pattern, drawn here in green on cream.
Will it look too busy on a small wall? The pattern is regular and kept to green and cream, so it reads calm even at 12" x 18". On a small wall, give it a little space on each side.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
