A gjirokaster travel poster from partway down a steep lane: pale flagstones falling away underfoot, a tall stone house pressed against the left edge with a vine over its shuttered window, and the slate-roofed town stacked up the hillside towards the castle and the mountain behind.
About the artwork
Low raking light does most of the drawing here. The lane is paved in irregular limestone slabs, each one caught pale apricot on top and pushed into cool blue-grey at the joints, so the surface reads as texture from across a room and as individual stones up close. On the left a house is cropped hard by the frame — coursed grey blocks, a heavy timber lintel, dark wooden shutters, a chimney, a green creeper spilling down. On the right a lower house shows the thing the town is known for: a roof of overlapping grey stone tiles laid like scales. Beyond, the houses climb in tiers, whitewashed walls with rows of small windows, dark trees pushed between them. The castle walls and a square clock tower hold the ridge, and a large blue-grey mountain closes the view. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Albania beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Stone roofs, not tile. The grey slabs make this town look like nowhere else in the Balkans.
- A lane that pulls you in. The paving leads the eye up the hill to the castle without a hard line.
- Quiet colour. Sand, grey, sage and duck-egg blue, so it never fights the room it hangs in.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The palette is nearly neutral, which makes this an easy print for rooms where you want texture rather than colour. It looks settled on greige, limewash and warm white walls, and beside linen, raw plaster, stoneware and rattan. Mid-brown frames pick up the timber shutters; a slim black frame sharpens the stone edges without adding warmth. It hangs well next to the Berat print or the other Balkan hill town designs.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What are the roofs made of? Flat grey stone slabs laid in overlapping courses like heavy scales, drawn tile by tile across the hillside. They are why the town reads silver rather than orange.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
