A Gaztelugatxe poster taken from high on the headland, looking down on the stone causeway as it zigzags across the water on its arches, with heavy Atlantic surf breaking white through the gap and the little hermitage sitting on the green crown of the islet.
About the artwork
The drawing is done from a steep bird's-eye angle, which is what makes it unusual — you are above the bridge rather than beside it, so the causeway reads as a dark hairpin ribbon threading between two masses of rock. The stonework is drawn course by course where it catches light, and one arch is clearly open underneath with sea running through it. Rock is handled in faceted planes of slate grey, olive and warm brown, with grass laid over the tops in flat green and a thin path scratched up the slope in switchbacks. At the summit the hermitage is small and precise: white walls, a red-tiled roof, a low stone terrace around it. The sea does most of the work for colour — deep navy in the channel, ultramarine offshore, and long combed lines of white foam wrapping the base of every rock. Cumulus piles up over the far headland on the right and the horizon runs pale blue. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Spain beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- An aerial view, not a postcard angle. Looking down the bridge gives the print real depth.
- Surf drawn properly. The foam is combed into lines that follow the swell around each rock.
- Navy, olive and white. A cold north-coast palette that holds its own on a dark wall.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The deep blues suit a room with some weight to it — a panelled hallway, a study, a bedroom with charcoal or ink-blue walls. It also lifts a plain white room that needs one strong dark rectangle. Black frames sharpen the water; espresso or walnut warms the rock and the roof tiles. Pair it with the San Sebastián print and you have two sides of the same Basque coast, one wild and one civic, which works nicely as a vertical stack in a stairwell.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the building at the top? A small stone hermitage with a red-tiled roof, reached by the stepped path that switchbacks up the islet from the far end of the causeway.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
