A Gamla Stan travel poster of Stockholm's old square: the row of narrow merchant houses in rust red, ochre, mustard and cream, their stepped and scrolled gables set against a flat blue sky, with church spires just visible behind and an empty cobbled square opening out below.
About the artwork
The composition is bold and simple — houses across the top half, cobbles across the bottom, nothing else. That decision puts all the pressure on two things. The facades: each house gets its own colour, its own window rhythm and its own gable profile, with the iron anchor plates, shutters and shop signs drawn in, so the terrace reads as seven separate buildings rather than a striped band. And the cobbles: thousands of small pale stones laid in perspective, fanning slightly as they come toward the viewer, which is what gives the empty foreground its texture and stops the lower half from being dead space. Palette is warm reds and yellows against one cold blue. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Sweden beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The colour every Stockholm photo tries to get. The gabled row is the city's most recognisable single view.
- Empty square, no crowd. Unusually still for a city print, which makes it restful rather than busy.
- Warm against cold. Rust and ochre under a flat blue sky, no third colour to muddy it.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The reds are saturated, so give it a plain wall — white, bone or the palest grey — and let the facades be the colour in the room. It works beside pale wood and wool, which is the obvious Scandinavian pairing, and also lifts a plain kitchen or dining wall. Natural oak and white frames both suit it. Pair it with a quieter print rather than another colour-heavy cityscape.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Where is the view from? Standing on the cobbles of the old square, looking across at the gabled house fronts.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
