A Florence travel poster from the hills above the city: Brunelleschi's dome rising out of a sea of terracotta rooftops, its white marble ribs running to the lantern, with the Tuscan hills fading blue behind.
About the artwork
One colour dominates and the print is built to survive it. Terracotta covers perhaps two thirds of the image — the dome, the roof tiles, the smaller cupolas — so separation has to come from value rather than hue: the dome is drawn a full step darker and warmer than the rooftops behind it, and the cream marble ribbing cuts it into clean segments. The cathedral's inlaid marble drum with its round oculi is picked out in cream and green. Behind the city the hills drop to a sage blue and the cumulus is drawn in flat cream shapes. Below, hundreds of roof planes are drawn individually rather than tiled. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Italy beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The rooftops are not wallpaper. Each roof plane is drawn, which is why the lower half holds up at large sizes.
- A single warm field. If a room needs one large warm anchor rather than a spread of colours, this is the print for it.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Terracotta on terracotta will flatten it, so avoid clay and rust walls here. It is at its best on cream, white, or a cool pale grey, where the roofs stay warm by contrast. A dining room is the obvious home — it reads as afternoon and food — and it pairs naturally with walnut and unglazed ceramics. Espresso frames deepen the roof tones; white keeps it airy.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa or dining table, 24" x 36" or larger so the rooftop detail stays visible.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Where is the view taken from? The classic elevated angle from the hills south of the Arno, looking across the rooftops to the cathedral.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
