A Flathead Lake travel poster taken from the water's edge, looking north. Rounded boulders sit half-submerged in shallow water so clear that the whole lake bed shows through, a pine-covered island breaks the horizon, and the snow-streaked peaks of the Mission Range close the view under an open blue sky.
About the artwork
Built from flat, hard-edged shapes with stippled texture on the stones, so the shoreline reads as hundreds of individual pebbles rather than a wash of colour. The palette is unusually wide for a lake print: rust, brick red, ochre, sand, sage, mint and slate all appear underfoot, then the water shifts through aquamarine and teal to a deep marine blue at the horizon. The island is a dark band of conifers over a pale rock rim, and the peaks are white and cream against a clean cyan sky. Text runs across the top in white condensed capitals: FLATHEAD LAKE, with MONTANA smaller beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The colour is in the stones — the famous multicoloured pebbles of the shoreline carry the bottom two-thirds of the print.
- Water you can see through — the shallows are drawn as clear glass, not a flat blue plane.
- Cool palette, warm accents — teal and cyan grounded by rust and ochre, so it never reads cold.
- For the Montana lake trip — the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, seen from the rocks rather than a boat.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cyan and teal want a pale wall to sit against, so white, bone or a soft grey-blue all work. The rust and ochre pebbles let it hang beside terracotta and warm wood without clashing, as in the walnut sideboard room in the photographs above. A pale oak frame keeps the sandy tones going; black frames sharpen the horizon line and suit a cooler, more graphic room.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The pebble detail rewards scale. At 12" x 18" it reads as texture; from 24" x 36" up you can pick out individual stones from a few feet away.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The printed text reads FLATHEAD LAKE across the top with MONTANA beneath it. The mountains behind are unlabelled.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
