An Empire State Building poster seen from a nearby rooftop at sunset. The art deco tower stands dead centre with its setbacks stepping up to the mast, its west face catching the last of the light while the other side falls into shadow. Manhattan spreads out behind it in haze, and three wooden water towers sit in silhouette on the roofs in the foreground.
About the artwork
Flat shapes with fine ruled linework for the window bays, and a long vertical colour gradient doing most of the atmosphere. The palette is entirely warm: dusty rose and mauve at the top of the sky, dropping through burnt orange into pale gold at the horizon, with streaked cirrus scratched across it in cream. The tower itself is amber and honey on the lit face, deep plum on the shadowed one, with a near-black spire and antenna. The city behind is drawn in receding violet-grey haze so the buildings lose contrast with distance, and the foreground rooftops are almost silhouette, brown-black, with the water tanks and their steel legs cut sharply against the glow. Type is set in white capitals reading EMPIRE STATE BUILDING, with NEW YORK CITY below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Water towers in the foreground — the detail that makes it read as a New York rooftop rather than a generic skyline.
- One warm gradient, top to bottom — rose to orange to gold, which is why it glows on a wall.
- Depth by haze — the city softens into violet as it recedes, so the tower stays the only sharp thing.
- Art deco drawn properly — the setbacks, the crown and the mast are all rendered, not reduced to a shape.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — stretched canvas in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Rose, amber and plum make this the warmest print in the set. It is at its best on a terracotta or clay wall, close to the walnut sideboard setting in the photographs above, and it also holds up on cream, camel or deep burgundy. On a cool grey wall the plum shadows can read muddy, so give it a warm ground if you can. Black framing sharpens the silhouettes; espresso or gold framing leans into the deco character. Strong above a bed, a fireplace or a bar cart.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The tower is a strong central shape, so 16" x 24" works beside a bed or in a hallway. Above a sofa or a fireplace, 24" x 36" lets the hazy skyline and the water towers register properly.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The printed lettering reads EMPIRE STATE BUILDING across the top, with NEW YORK CITY underneath it.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
