A Dunnottar Castle poster composed from the clifftop path rather than the castle gate: roofless walls and gable ends standing on a flat-topped headland, white surf working the rocks in the cove below, and a deep bank of summer wildflowers filling the near slope.
About the artwork
The foreground is the boldest decision here. A diagonal bank of grasses runs from the bottom edge up to the right, and it is drawn plant by plant — seed heads, flat white umbels of cow parsley, lilac and pink flower clusters, a broad leaf catching light, tall stems crossing in front of everything like a screen you are looking through. Behind that the land drops away in green planes cut by a thin path, then the sea arrives: teal near the rocks, greener in the bay, hardening to a flat grey-blue at the horizon, with long white lines of foam curling into the inlet. The ruin itself is kept small and pale on its green table of rock, walls and window openings just legible. Thin cirrus streaks the sky. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Scotland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Wildflowers up close. The near bank is drawn in real botanical detail, not a green blur.
- Depth you can walk into. Flowers, cliff, cove, open sea — four distances in one sheet.
- Green and teal. A cooler, fresher palette than most castle prints, easy to live with.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The botanical foreground lets this one sit beside floral textiles and dried grasses without clashing, so it suits a bedroom, a garden room or a wide landing. Try it on soft sage, oatmeal or plain white paint, with linen, rush matting and pale wood nearby. A whitewashed or natural oak frame keeps the meadow airy; black pushes it towards the coast instead. It works as a pair with the store's other Scottish coastal prints.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Why is the castle so small? The design is a view from the mainland path, so the ruin sits at true distance and the clifftop flowers take the foreground.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
