A Dune of Pilat poster standing on the sand itself: the ridge of the dune running away as one long diagonal, ripples combed across the whole slope, a dark band of pine forest caught at its foot, and the Atlantic with its offshore sandbank beyond.
About the artwork
Close to half the print is sand, and the ripples do all the work. They are drawn as fine parallel lines in amber, ochre and cream following the curve of the slope, thick and clearly separated at the bottom edge where you would be standing, tightening as they run back until they close up at the crest — the whole sense of distance comes from that one device, with no haze used at all. The lee side falls into flat brown shadow. Where the dune meets the forest the sand spills in among the nearer trees in pale tongues, and the pines read as a blue-green canopy with individual crowns picked out along the edge. Beyond them the sea is two blues divided by a long white surf line, with a flat pale sandbank lying offshore. The sky is a clear graded blue. In the bottom right corner a tuft of pine needles is drawn close enough to count. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with France beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- One long diagonal. A simple, confident composition that reads from right across a room.
- Ripples that carry the perspective. Line spacing alone does the depth, which is why it stays so crisp.
- Gold against pine green and Atlantic blue. Three colours, held apart by hard edges.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Bright and warm, which suits a hallway or a stairwell where you want something to land on at the turn. Sand, clay and warm white walls carry it, and it sits well with pale wood, jute, linen and anything woven. A white frame keeps it airy; espresso gives it more weight if the wall is very pale. It hangs well next to the St Andrews print, which works from much the same sand-and-grass palette on a colder coast.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the pale strip out at sea? A sandbank lying offshore beyond the surf line, painted as a flat pale band between two blues at the top right of the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
