A Cube Houses Rotterdam poster drawn from the paving below: yellow cubes tipped onto one corner and set on grey hexagonal stalks, stepping away in a row toward a dark-capped round tower and the glass office blocks behind them.
About the artwork
The image is an argument between two geometries. The nearest cube crowds the top-left corner, cropped so you look up at the underside of a sloping yellow face with its small angled windows punched through; from there the row recedes on a hard diagonal, each cube smaller than the last, until they come down onto pale concrete piers. Everything is hard-edge and flat, but each plane gets its own value — cadmium on the sunlit faces, ochre on the half-lit ones, grey-green in shadow, the glazing broken into faceted slabs of pale blue. Behind the cubes are the straight lines that make the tilt legible: a cylindrical tower with ribbed balconies and a dark crown, a mirrored slab beside it, a slimmer striped tower further off, a red crane at the water. The foreground stays quiet — paving joints running to a vanishing point, angular concrete benches, bare young trees. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Netherlands beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Geometry doing the work. Cubes on their corners against straight glass towers, with nothing soft in between.
- A low viewpoint. You stand under the overhang rather than across the square from it, so the cubes lean over you.
- Yellow against steel blue. Two colours, held apart, which is why it holds a wall from across the room.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
This one belongs in a room with some hard edges — a study, a home office, a hallway with concrete or pale grey walls. It sits well with black metal, plywood, wire shelving and a single plant. Natural oak frames warm the yellow faces; black frames sharpen the glazing and the tower behind. It hangs as a pair with the Antwerp Central Station print if you want two pieces of architecture rather than two landscapes.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What am I looking at? The cube houses seen from the paved deck they stand on, looking across toward the office towers of the city centre.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
