A Chrysler Building art deco poster seen from a rooftop across Midtown as the sun goes down. The tower rises through the centre of the sheet, its west face washed orange by the low light and its east face already in violet shadow, while the stainless steel crown catches the last of the sun and the spire runs clean off the top of the composition.
About the artwork
Hard-edged flat shapes with fine hatching in the clouds and the window grids. The palette is a sunset one, split cleanly warm against cool: tangerine, coral and salmon on the lit facades and in the sky, deep violet, plum and indigo in the cloud banks and the shaded blocks, slate blue-grey for the surrounding rooftops, and small squares of warm gold where office windows are already on. Details to look for: the stacked sunburst arches with their triangular windows in the crown, the eagle figures projecting from the setback corners, the water tank and mechanical housings on the lower roofs, and the flat pale strip of the East River behind the skyline. The type reads CHRYSLER BUILDING above NEW YORK CITY in white capitals. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The crown up close — the sunburst arches and corner eagles are drawn, not suggested.
- Warm against cool — an orange tower standing in a violet city is what carries the whole image.
- A rooftop viewpoint — you are level with Midtown, not looking up from the sidewalk.
- Deco geometry — fits a room that already leans toward brass, black and strong lines.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — stretched on a wooden bar in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The orange and violet want a deep or warm wall rather than a bright one. The terracotta room in the photographs above picks up the lit facade directly, and a charcoal, plum or dark green wall makes the sunset glow harder. On plain white it still works but reads cooler. A black frame is the natural match for the deco lines; the carved gold frame plays to the crown.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The window grids and the crown detail hold together best at 24" x 36" and above. In a hallway or home office, 16" x 24" is the practical size.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship rolled and unframed. Matte canvas arrives stretched and ready to hang, and framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? The printed text is CHRYSLER BUILDING with NEW YORK CITY beneath it, in white capitals across the upper sky. No signage or lettering appears on the buildings themselves.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
