A Cedar Rapids Iowa poster taken from the water: the long limestone civic building stands on its island in the Cedar River, columned bays down its river face and a low hipped roof, with the rest of downtown — a few mid-rise blocks, factory stacks, a bridge deck — spread thin along the bank behind it.
About the artwork
Flat vector illustration, and unusually restrained in colour: the whole print runs on teal. Deep petrol green-blue in the wave troughs, mid teal across the open river, pale cream and buttermilk on the crests and on the sunlit stone, and a soft gradient of teal to pale aqua in the sky. The lower two thirds is nothing but water, each wave drawn as a hard-edged sliver of light. The building is the only warm note, and it sits exactly on the horizon line. Type at the top reads CEDAR RAPIDS with IOWA beneath in lighter capitals. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Water carries the print — two thirds of the image is river, drawn wave by wave rather than as flat blue.
- A city on an island — the civic hall sitting mid-river is the detail that belongs to this town and no other.
- Near-monochrome — one teal family throughout, which makes it calm on a wall rather than busy.
- Quiet horizon — the low skyline and wide sky give it a stillness most city prints do not have.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — stretched on a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The teal palette is cool and even, so it settles best on white, pale grey or soft blue walls — a bedroom or a bathroom rather than a busy living room. Against the sage wall in the photographs above the greens meet and the whole corner goes quiet. A white or natural frame keeps it airy; black frames it more like a photograph.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The wave detail gains a lot at scale, so 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" is worth it above a bed. Smaller sizes still read well because the composition is simple.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and rolled. Matte canvas arrives stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? CEDAR RAPIDS across the top with IOWA in smaller capitals underneath. No other text is printed.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
