A Castle Combe poster made from the middle of the brook: clear water running over pale stones straight toward you, the low arched bridge on the left, and a row of honey-coloured cottages leaning over the far bank.
About the artwork
The unusual thing here is the eye level. You are standing in the water, so the stream takes two thirds of the sheet and everything else is stacked above it. The water is drawn as pattern: caustic ripples in white and pale gold over a bed of rounded pebbles, deepening to a strong mid-blue where it runs faster below the bridge, with big limestone boulders breaking the surface in the near corner. The bridge itself is a low packhorse span of three arches in weathered grey stone, doubled by its reflection in the dark water beneath. On the right bank the cottages step up the lane in Cotswold limestone — buff, cream and warm ochre — with steep stone-tiled roofs, tall chimney stacks, gabled dormers and small square-paned windows above a dry-stone wall and a timber gate. Woodland in near-black green closes the top and leaves only a slot of sky. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with England beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Painted from the streambed. The low, in-the-water viewpoint is what separates it from every other village print.
- Cotswold stone in three tones. Buff, cream and ochre against dark woodland, warm and cool held in balance.
- Water worth looking into. Ripple caustics, submerged pebbles and boulders drawn one by one.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Honey stone and deep green make it a quiet, country-leaning print: good over a dresser, in a dining room, or on a landing with cream, clay or olive walls. It likes oak, stoneware and linen, and takes a warm picture light well. Natural oak frames echo the cottage stone; espresso pulls out the woodland. Hang it with the Bath print for a West Country pair, or with Oxford for an England row.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Where is the view taken from? From the bed of the brook below the village, looking upstream at the packhorse bridge with the cottage row on the right.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
