A Carcassonne travel poster from the hillside opposite: the double ring of walls and its crowd of conical slate turrets standing along the ridge in warm golden stone, dry grass and scrub tumbling down toward the viewer, and green vineyard plain running away flat on the left.
About the artwork
An evening light study. The sun is low and behind the viewer, so the whole citadel is lit full-on in honey, ochre and pale gold while every turret throws a hard blue-grey shadow down the wall beside it — that alternation of gold and shadow, repeated twenty times along the ramparts, is what gives the print its rhythm. The foreground is drawn with real care: bleached grass in long strokes, rust-coloured scrub, and pale limestone outcrops that catch the same low sun. Beyond the walls the plain is a cool green-grey band, deliberately flat, so nothing competes with the silhouette on the ridge. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with France beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Twenty turrets, twenty shadows. The repeating rhythm along the wall is the whole composition.
- Gold against a cool plain. The warm citadel reads instantly against the flat green behind it.
- The largest intact medieval walls in Europe, drawn straight. No fantasy, no fog.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Golden and dry, a warm print that belongs on cream, clay or olive walls and beside leather, wool and dark wood. Against cool grey it loses its heat. Walnut and espresso frames deepen the stone; white keeps it graphic. It pairs well with the Bran Castle or Neuschwanstein prints as a castle group, though this is the warmest of the three by a distance.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Where is the view from? From the dry hillside facing the citadel, looking across at the walls in late afternoon light.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
