A Cape Kiwanda Oregon poster that looks along the Pacific City shore at low sun: a golden sandstone headland rising straight out of the beach on the right, shore pines and spruce clinging to its crest, and a squat sea stack standing alone offshore while teal breakers unroll in long diagonal lines across wet sand.
About the artwork
Painted in a dense illustrative style rather than flat vector, with modelled light, visible bedding lines in the rock and individually drawn dune grass. The palette runs warm ochre and burnt sienna through the sandstone cliff, deep bottle green in the conifers and beach scrub, and a graded teal-to-slate sky behind cream cumulus. The surf is built from layered aquamarine, jade and white foam. Lettering sits at the foot of the image: CAPE KIWANDA in heavy white capitals, with OREGON spaced out below it. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The cape itself, not just the rock — the sandstone headland fills the right third of the frame, so this reads as Cape Kiwanda rather than a generic beach scene.
- Warm and cool in one frame — ochre cliff against teal water gives the print a natural complementary contrast that carries across a room.
- Depth you can read from a distance — foreground dune grass, mid-ground surf and the far sea stack stack up into three clear planes.
- A specific memory — for anyone who has walked up the dune at Pacific City or watched dory boats launch off this beach.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The ochre and sienna in the cliff sit well against warm white, oatmeal or clay-toned walls, and the teal water keeps the whole thing from turning sleepy. A light oak or natural wood frame picks up the sand tones, as in the oak-framed room shots above. It also holds its own over a cream sofa or on a teak sideboard, where the green conifers echo houseplants nearby.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a sofa or bed, 24" x 36" holds the wall without crowding it. For a hallway, entry or gallery wall, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24" is the easier fit.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, wired and ready to hang.
Is this the same as Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach? No. This is Cape Kiwanda at Pacific City, about eighty miles south. The subject here is the yellow sandstone cape on the right; the offshore stack is Pacific City's own, and Cannon Beach's Haystack Rock is a separate print in the shop.
What does the poster say? CAPE KIWANDA across the lower band, with OREGON in smaller spaced capitals beneath it.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
