A Cannery Row Monterey poster looking back along the waterfront from the rocks. The old cannery buildings stand out over the water on timber pilings, rust-red corrugated roofs stepping down the slope, while surf pushes through granite boulders and kelp in the whole lower half of the frame.
About the artwork
Flat vector illustration with hard-edged shapes and dense stippled texture on the rock and foam. The palette runs turquoise and deep marine blue in the water, cream and pale sand in the breaking surf, warm tan and grey in the boulders, rust brown in the kelp beds, and rust orange corrugated roofing against blue-grey timber walls on the canneries. Long window bands, cross-braced piling supports and a cluster of cypress on the roofline are all drawn in. Behind them the bay flattens out to a low blue shoreline with small cumulus clouds. Type is a white sans serif reading MONTEREY over CALIFORNIA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The row from the water side — pilings, bracing and undersides, the angle you only get from the rocks.
- Surf you can read — the foam is drawn as distinct swirls and channels rather than a flat white wash.
- Rust against turquoise — the orange roofs are the only warm note, and they carry the whole composition.
- Steinbeck country without the cliché — the industrial architecture is the subject, not a sunset.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Turquoise, cream and rust is a coastal palette that still has warmth in it. It looks right on the sage green wall in the photographs above, and on soft white, pale grey-blue or a sandy beige in a bathroom or a bright living room. Oak or white frames keep it airy. If the room already has terracotta or leather, the rust roofs will pick it straight up.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The foam and rock texture is fine grained, so 18" x 24" and up shows it best. 24" x 36" works above a sofa or a console.
Does it come framed? Paper arrives rolled and unframed. Matte canvas is stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? The printed type reads MONTEREY with CALIFORNIA beneath it. The words Cannery Row do not appear on the artwork.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
