A Buffalo National River Arkansas poster looking upstream through an Ozark bluff line. A pale limestone wall rises sheer on the right, capped and seamed with cedar and hardwood, while the river runs jade green over a shallow bed below. A red canoe is pulled up on the cobble bar in the near corner, and dark forest closes in on the far bank.
About the artwork
Painted in worked layers, not flat vector shapes. The bluff is built from horizontal bedding lines and shadowed fracture planes, the canopy from thousands of separate leaf clusters, and the gravel bar from individually drawn cobbles. Colour does most of the work: buff, cream and warm grey in the limestone, six or seven greens from black spruce-dark on the left bank up to bright olive on the sunlit crown, jade and pale turquoise in the water with an apricot reflection running down its centre. The sky is a deep petrol teal at the top, softening behind stacked cream cumulus. The canoe is the single red note on the sheet. Lettering sits in the lower band in white condensed capitals: BUFFALO NATIONAL RIVER, with ARKANSAS spaced out beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The bluff sets the scale — the limestone wall towers over the river, which is how the Buffalo actually reads from a boat.
- A paddler's view — the beached canoe puts you on the gravel bar rather than at an overlook.
- America's first national river — a free-flowing, undammed stretch of the Ozarks, and the print keeps it that way: no bridges, no buildings.
- One red accent — against all that green and cream, the canoe gives the eye somewhere to land.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The cream limestone gives this print a light backbone, so it works on warm white and greige walls without going heavy the way pure forest scenes can. Natural oak keeps it calm. If your room has any rust, brick or leather in it, the red canoe will find it. The bedroom sideboard setting with dried pampas in the photographs above shows how the jade water sits beside neutral linens.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The bedding lines in the bluff and the canopy texture reward size, so 24" x 36" upward for a main wall. 16" x 24" still holds the bluff, the river and the canoe clearly.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and rolled. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang in white, black, espresso or natural.
Is this the city of Buffalo? No. The Buffalo National River is a 135-mile river in the Ozark Mountains of northern Arkansas, protected as a national river in 1972. It has no connection to Buffalo, New York.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
